Breakthrough Women

Breakthrough Women Awards

It takes courage to venture into the unknown, to blaze the trails, to test your limits, to break through barriers.

The Breakthrough Women Award is a proud tradition of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Indianapolis Chapter, Inc. (NCBW-Indy). We present this award each year to five women who have contributed to substantial progress in our community through their extraordinary accomplishments. The awards highlight the breakthrough efforts of African American women in the areas of Economic Development, Education, Leadership Development, Public Policy, and Arts & Culture. The Breakthrough Women program was started in 1988 under the leadership of Attorney Fay Williams. Since then, the Coalition has recognized over 100 black women in the community who have broken through the barriers, who have achieved a level of accomplishment far above and beyond that which is considered typical in her profession.
